Tree pruning in Grasse and on the French Riviera

Any tree, any height, pruned on ropes and with good reason: only what's necessary is cut, so your tree stays healthy, sound and beautiful.

When should you call an arborist?

  • Branches touch the roof, the walls or the gutters
  • The tree casts too much shade on the garden, terrace or pool
  • Dead or broken branches could fall
  • Branches overhang the neighbour's garden or the road
  • The tree is getting close to power or phone lines

How Cédric prunes

  1. 1

He looks at the tree before cutting

Species, vigour, health, constraints around it: every tree is unique, so pruning is decided after this free assessment.

  2. 2

    He targets the cuts

Reasoned pruning: few, small cuts, only where there's a problem. No topping or drastic pruning, which weaken the tree and trigger fragile regrowth.

  3. 3

    He works on ropes, safely

He climbs the tree, stays double-anchored while cutting, and lowers branches on ropes to protect roofs, terraces and plantings.

  4. 4

    He leaves the garden tidy

Branches are taken away, or the wood left as logs and the chips for mulch, as you prefer.

Good to know

  • A tree doesn't need pruning to live: pruning answers a constraint (space, light, safety), not a need of the tree.
  • Light, targeted pruning costs less over time than severe pruning, which means coming back more often.
  • Pruning is best done outside the sap rise and the nesting season: Cédric advises the right time for each species.

Frequently asked questions

When should a tree be pruned?

Usually during dormancy, from late autumn to late winter, or in summer for some species. Avoid the spring sap rise and major work during the bird nesting season. A dangerous branch, however, is dealt with right away.

Can my neighbour make me cut branches overhanging their property?

Yes. Under the French Civil Code (article 673) they can require branches overhanging their land to be cut, but they can't cut them themselves. Trees over 2 metres tall must also be planted at least 2 metres from the boundary (article 671), unless local rules say otherwise.

How much does tree pruning cost?

It depends on the tree, its height, access and removal of the branches. Cédric comes to see the tree and gives you a clear, free, no-obligation quote.

Is topping a good way to reduce a tree's height?

No. A topped tree quickly regrows weak branches that can break, or declines if it lacks vigour; in the medium term it often ends up felled. A targeted crown reduction gives a much better result.
